Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is expanding his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” universe with a literary adaptation. The director has written a novel centered on the character of Cliff Booth, the stunt performer made famous by Brad Pitt’s Oscar-winning performance in the 2019 film. Titled “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” the book will arrive on shelves this December through HarperCollins, coinciding with related film releases.
The novel’s publication timing creates an interesting multimedia rollout. The companion feature film, “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,” arrives in Imax theaters on November 25 before streaming on Netflix on December 23. Directed by David Fincher rather than Tarantino, the movie reunites Pitt in his signature role and carries a substantial $200 million budget. The book publication on December 8 falls strategically between these two release dates.
Set in 1970s Hollywood, the story revisits Booth eight years after the original narrative. According to promotional materials, the character’s journey encompasses multiple vocations including war hero, bartender, and cinema projectionist. The novel follows Tarantino’s previous novelization of the original 2019 film, establishing a pattern of bringing his screenplays to the page. Tarantino opted not to direct the sequel himself, preferring to save his directorial ambitions for entirely new creative territory rather than conclude his career with a follow-up project.
