Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has criticized the effectiveness of military actions against Iran, arguing that the strategy has not produced positive results. In remarks to Al Jazeera, Eide expressed concerns about the approach taken in the conflict.
According to the Norwegian diplomat, the military campaign failed to accomplish its original objectives and instead had the unintended consequence of empowering hardline factions within the Iranian government. Eide’s assessment suggests that the conflict has achieved the opposite of what proponents intended.
The Foreign Minister has called for a shift in policy direction, advocating for the restoration of open maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, which existed prior to the escalation of hostilities. Eide has urged international actors to pursue a resolution that would bring an end to the ongoing tensions in the region.
