Microsoft confirmed a significant service disruption affecting multiple business applications on Monday afternoon. The outage, which initially appeared limited to email access, extended far beyond Outlook to impact numerous enterprise tools including Teams, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint Online. Thousands of corporate customers reported difficulties as they returned to work following the weekend.
The technology giant attributed the widespread problem to a faulty authentication configuration affecting core systems used by multiple Microsoft 365 services. In a statement, Microsoft acknowledged the disruption and pledged to restore functionality as quickly as possible. The company also identified six additional services experiencing degraded performance, including Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender XDR, and the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
Microsoft began investigating the issue and testing potential solutions to address the root cause. As of the company’s latest update in the evening, engineers continued examining recent service modifications to pinpoint the exact source of the problem. System administrators received reference codes to track progress on the outage through official channels, though access to monitoring tools remained compromised for some users.
