Melissa Jefferson-Wooden claimed victory in the women’s 100-meter sprint at a Diamond League competition in Poland on Sunday, finishing ahead of two fellow Olympic medalists. Jefferson-Wooden’s winning time of 10.78 seconds edged out Julien Alfred, who took second place in 10.83, while Sha’Carri Richardson rounded out the top three with a time of 10.96. The race marked the first head-to-head competition among the three sprinters since last year’s World Championships in Tokyo.
In men’s middle-distance racing, Ethan Strand captured the 1500-meter title with a time of 3:30.77. The 23-year-old American competed against an elite field that included the two most recent Olympic champions in the event: Cole Hocker of the United States, who finished third, and Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen in fourth place. Strand’s performance represents his most significant international victory to date.
On the same day, distance running saw another record-breaking performance as Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha set a new world record in the half marathon. Competing in Buenos Aires, Kejelcha completed the 13.1-mile distance in 56 minutes and 51 seconds, surpassing the previous record by nearly half a minute. This marks Kejelcha’s second world record in the half marathon within less than a year.
