The web-slinging adventure continues to face minimal competition from new releases, solidifying its reign as the top film at multiplexes nationwide.
The superhero film’s financial performance has been extraordinary, reaching $855 million in domestic revenue and $2.22 billion globally. These figures place it among the highest-grossing movies of all time, currently trailing only “Avatar” and “Avengers: Endgame” in worldwide earnings. Industry analysts suggest the film could eventually surpass “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to become the highest-grossing domestic release ever.
Meanwhile, fellow Sony release “Insidious: Out of the Further” secured second place with a $25.3 million domestic debut from over 3,300 theaters. The paranormal sequel added $35 million internationally, bringing its global opening to $60 million. Despite underperforming compared to the previous franchise installment, the film’s modest $18 million production budget positions it favorably for profitability.
Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” held strong at third place with $19.5 million in its sixth weekend, declining only 17% from the previous week. The blockbuster has become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, with $1.44 billion earned globally to date.
