India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was forced to exit the field with a wrist injury during the opening day of the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday. The injury occurred when Pant attempted a pull shot against a short delivery bowled by Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara during the 58th over of India’s innings, only managing to glove the ball instead.
Pant immediately showed signs of discomfort after the impact, clutching his wrist in pain. The team’s physio promptly attended to him on the field, applying ice to minimize swelling. After the medical team applied and then removed tape from the affected area, Pant decided to retire hurt and leave the playing area. He received additional treatment in the dugout, where medical staff continued to assess and tape his wrist.
Ravindra Jadeja took Pant’s place at the crease following the wicketkeeper’s departure. India finished the day’s play at 300 for five wickets, with Devdutt Padikkal scoring 117 runs off 193 deliveries. The Indian team currently holds a 1-0 advantage in the two-match series after securing a 165-run victory in the first Test at Galle.
