Saban Films has secured North American distribution rights to “Ignition,” an upcoming thriller featuring Emmy-nominated actress Maisie Williams in the lead role. The acquisition was facilitated by WestEnd Films, which previously unveiled the project at the Cannes Film Festival. Director James Erskine, himself an Emmy nominee known for documentaries including “Copa 71” and “Billie,” helms the film.
The high-concept thriller follows Williams as a woman whose drive to London takes a terrifying turn when she receives a call revealing a bomb planted in her vehicle. Forced to comply with her captor’s demands while unable to seek help, she must navigate a dangerous situation that culminates in delivering the explosive device to the Royal Albert Hall. As time runs out, the protagonist must unravel the mystery behind her involvement in this elaborate terrorist plot.
The cast also includes BAFTA-nominated actor Rory Kinnear and Lovi Poe. Currently in post-production, the film was shot using real London locations and innovative multi-camera technology operated remotely. The distribution agreement follows successful sales in multiple territories, including the United Kingdom, Spain, and Portugal, among others.
WestEnd Films acquired the project through its WeLove label, which focuses on female-centered narratives and supporting women in the industry. The company plans to continue pursuing additional international distribution agreements at the Toronto International Film Festival.
