The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors has approved a significant honor for the institution’s baseball program. The facility that serves as home to the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team will now be designated Tony Robichaux Park, commemorating the legendary coach who shaped the program’s history. The decision, made on August 27, 2026, replaces the previous name, Russo Park.
Robichaux’s impact on Louisiana collegiate baseball remains unmatched. During his tenure leading the Cajuns, he compiled a coaching record of 1,173 wins and 765 losses across his time at Louisiana and McNeese. His most notable achievement came in 2000 when he guided the team to its only NCAA College World Series appearance. University President Dr. Ramesh Kolluru emphasized that Robichaux’s influence extended beyond athletic victories, highlighting his emphasis on discipline, accountability, faith, and service.
The renaming initiative includes additional honors for program supporters. The baseball stadium club has been designated the Russo Club, recognizing the Russo family’s long-standing commitment to the program. Chris J. Russo pledged $1.225 million for this naming, along with an additional $500,000 contribution to establish the Friends of Tony Robichaux Fund, which will support the baseball program and launch a $5 million fundraising campaign.
As the Ragin’ Cajuns prepare for the 2027 season, the newly renamed Tony Robichaux Park will serve as a lasting tribute to the coach’s legacy and values that defined his decades of service to Louisiana baseball.
