A prominent Liverpool supporters’ organization has called for transparency regarding a reported investment bid involving billionaire Jeff Bezos. The Amazon founder is allegedly part of an investment consortium seeking to acquire a substantial minority stake in the English Premier League club, according to recent media reports.
The proposed investor group, led by Amit Bhatia, includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin alongside Bezos. Liverpool’s current ownership, Fenway Sports Group, acknowledged receiving an approach from Bhatia’s consortium in July. Recent reports suggest the group is nearing completion of a deal that would grant them approximately one-third ownership of the club, with a potential announcement expected imminently.
Spirit of Shankly, a major fan organization, has expressed concerns about the proposed transaction. The group has requested a formal meeting with club leadership to discuss the potential implications of the ownership change. Fan representatives emphasized that decisions regarding club management and football operations should prioritize supporter interests and the institution’s long-term welfare.
Bezos, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals with an estimated net worth exceeding $280 billion, has previously explored acquisitions of major sports franchises but ultimately abandoned those pursuits. The potential Liverpool investment comes as the club enters a new managerial era under Andoni Iraola.
