Bedford High School celebrated the opening of its new stadium with an impressive defensive performance Friday night, defeating Bishop McCort Catholic 14-6 in their season opener. The Bisons remained scoreless through the first half before erupting early in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns within the opening two minutes and ten seconds to take control of the game.
The breakthrough came quickly after halftime when quarterback Gabe Taylor connected with receiver Grey Livengood on a 65-yard touchdown pass to start the second half. The Bisons extended their lead moments later when sophomore running back Zachary Eichelberger scored on a 22-yard run. Bedford’s defense proved dominant throughout, forcing four turnovers and stopping Bishop McCort on four separate fourth-down attempts while surrendering only a late touchdown pass to receiver Breylond Wiley.
The nearly three-hour contest showcased Bedford’s new artificial turf facility, which was developed as part of a comprehensive $48 million school improvement project. The stadium also features modern lighting systems and new video and scoreboard technology. Bedford will travel to Clearfield for their next matchup, while Bishop McCort will host Bellwood-Antis at their home stadium.
