Karina Longworth, host of the podcast “You Must Remember This,” has shifted her focus almost entirely away from contemporary Hollywood. After 18 seasons exploring entertainment history, the former film critic now devotes minimal attention to modern industry developments, watching only around 10-12 new films annually compared to her previous pace of two or three screenings per week. Instead, she channels her energy into uncovering stories from classic Hollywood’s past, pursuing narratives through books that lead her down various research paths.
The podcast’s newest season, “The Bisexuals,” launching this week, examines the lives of Broadway performer Libby Holman and actor Montgomery Clift across eight episodes. Though Holman was not a traditional Hollywood figure—she never appeared in films and rarely lived in Los Angeles—Longworth discovered enough connections to the entertainment industry through associated figures and films inspired by Holman’s life to justify her inclusion. The season explores how Hollywood productions adapted elements of Holman’s story while significantly altering details, particularly regarding her bisexuality, which the entertainment industry of that era was unwilling to portray directly.
Longworth plans to tour classical films from her podcast this fall, visiting Houston, New York, Boston, Chicago, and other cities. She intends to continue producing new seasons as long as compelling stories remain to be told and audiences continue listening.
