Juventus and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement over the transfer of Canadian striker Jonathan David, according to multiple reports confirmed on August 31. The deal will see David move to the Spanish club on a season-long loan with the option for Atletico to make the transfer permanent for approximately €25 million.
As part of the arrangement, Juventus will continue to subsidize a portion of David’s wages, contributing around €6 million annually in net pay. However, Atletico Madrid will shoulder more than half of the financial burden. Should the loan option be exercised, David has reportedly already agreed to a contract extension with Atletico that would keep him at the club through summer 2031.
David arrived at Juventus on a free transfer last summer following five years with French side Lille. During his inaugural season in Serie A, the Canadian international contributed six goals and four assists across 35 appearances. Despite these statistics, he failed to establish himself as a key player under coach Luciano Spalletti, whose tactical approach did not suit his playing style.
The departure opens the door for Juventus to pursue attacking reinforcements before the September 1 transfer deadline closes. Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade has emerged as a primary target for the Italian giants, though they have also expressed interest in Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth as alternative options.
