Toronto International Film Festival will debut a new financing initiative this fall featuring an impressive roster of celebrity talent. TIFF: The Market, running September 10-16, represents the festival’s inaugural marketplace for film and television projects seeking international investment and production partnerships. The event will showcase 40 films, six television series, and five innovation-focused projects to industry financiers, distributors and executives.
Several high-profile actors have already committed to projects selected for the market. Jeremy Irons is attached to star in “Sher,” directed by Deepa Mehta, while an animated feature called “Central Park Tale” features Keke Palmer, Alan Cumming, Common and Regina Hall. Additional notable names participating include Jacob Tremblay, Chase Crawford, Marlee Matlin and Booker Prize winner Marlon James.
Described as a “curated incubator,” the marketplace aims to connect more than 50 established producers with key industry decision-makers to facilitate financing and international collaborations. Producers will participate in structured networking sessions to pitch their projects to potential investors and partners. The initiative, presented by Ontario Creates, focuses specifically on projects in advanced development, financing and packaging stages.
