Trinity High School’s football program faces a fresh chapter this season following the graduation of several standout players who led the team to a Division II state championship last year. Coach Rob Cathcart has emphasized that the upcoming campaign represents a chance for younger athletes to step into leadership roles and prove themselves on the field.
The Pioneers lost key contributors including their quarterback, running back, and several linemen to graduation. However, returning senior captains Tate Zubhuza and Malith Malith are committed to maintaining the winning culture established by their predecessors. Both players have spent the offseason preparing alongside new quarterbacks competing for the starting position, including junior Danny Bergin and sophomore Chatham Flynn, who transferred to the program.
Despite being a relatively young roster, Trinity boasts promising talent among its sophomore class and several returning starters along the offensive line. Cathcart drew parallels to his 2021 team, which advanced to the championship game despite being predominantly sophomores at the time. That group eventually won the title as seniors, suggesting the current squad has potential for a similar trajectory.
The Pioneers enter their season opener against John Stark with modest expectations and several starting positions still to be determined. However, Zubhuza and his teammates view being underestimated as motivation, confident they can compete for a playoff spot and prove skeptics wrong through their performance on the field.
