Paul Heatley of Carrick Rangers has been awarded the August player of the month honour by the Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Association. The 39-year-old striker reversed his decision to retire following the previous campaign and has made an impressive contribution to his team’s successful start to the new season.
Heatley scored three goals during August as Carrick Rangers enjoyed a strong opening to their Irish Premiership campaign, losing just one of their matches. Despite the individual accolade, the forward was quick to credit his teammates for the award, suggesting that the honour reflected the collective performance of the squad rather than his personal achievements.
Speaking about the team’s early momentum, Heatley emphasised the importance of building on their positive start and accumulating points early in the season. He highlighted how establishing a strong foundation in the opening weeks can prove beneficial throughout the campaign. Sean McAllister of Dungannon Swifts and Adam Frizzell of Linfield finished as runners-up and third respectively in the voting.
