The Ottumwa High School girls tennis team dominated their matchup against Des Moines Hoover-East on Tuesday at Dan Staggs Family Courts, securing an 11-0 shutout victory. The Bulldogs’ commanding performance was highlighted by the successful varsity debuts of three singles players and the doubles team of Layla Criswell and Victoria Sosa. Notably, Ottumwa won every set across all 10 matches played, demonstrating the team’s overall strength and depth.
Head coach Leanna White emphasized the importance of consistent play during the competition. She noted that she was specifically looking for players to perform at their individual skill level against opponents who may not have been as experienced in the sport. The team’s ability to maintain that standard throughout the match reflected positively on their preparation and focus.
With the victory, Ottumwa improved their record in Iowa Alliance Conference south division duals to 3-0, bringing their overall season record to 8-3. The Bulldogs will have an opportunity to potentially secure the south division championship when they travel to Des Moines Roosevelt on Thursday. The matchup is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Waveland Courts.
