The difficulty escalates in subsequent weeks when Claremore hosts Class 6A Bartlesville in Week 1 and faces Class 6A Muskogee in Week 2. Bartlesville features a new coaching staff led by Matt Hennesy and includes offensive coordinator Mason Fine, a former North Texas quarterback who holds Oklahoma’s state record for passing yards in a season. Muskogee, a recent state championship contender, boasts talented athletes across all positions.
The district portion of the schedule proves equally competitive, with Collinsville, Tahlequah, Pryor, and Bishop McGuinness established as regular playoff participants. Hurt anticipates Nathan Hale and Edison Prep will also emerge as stronger competitors, creating a district where talented teams could realistically miss the postseason entirely. This competitive environment demands near-perfect execution from the Zebras.
After three consecutive quarterfinal appearances, Claremore seeks to progress further into November. Hurt emphasized the team’s determination to elevate their performance, with senior players embracing the “Dream Big” mentality as they pursue their ultimate objective of winning a state championship.
