A new television adaptation of Agatha Christie’s beloved detective is in development, with actor Edward Bluemel taking on the iconic role of Hercule Poirot. The six-episode series, titled “Hercule,” is currently being filmed in Liverpool and will air on BBC platforms in the United Kingdom and on BritBox for North American audiences.
The show promises to deliver both an intimate character study of the famous detective and a sweeping examination of British society during the interwar period. The narrative will draw from three of Christie’s original stories while exploring Poirot’s relationships with key figures who will become important allies and adversaries in his future investigations.
The production boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including James D’Arcy, James Nesbitt, Tamsin Greig, and Jack Gleeson among others. Benji Walters has written the series, while multiple directors—Jonny Campbell, Chanya Button, and Alrick Riley—will helm different episodes. The project is being developed by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited, with distribution handled by Fifth Season.
