The horror franchise “Insidious” is returning to theaters with its sixth installment, “Insidious: Out of the Further,” which collected $3 million during Thursday evening previews. As a continuation of 2023’s “Insidious: The Red Door,” the film is positioned to become one of the weekend’s top performers, with industry analysts projecting an opening between $23 million and $27 million.
Sony Pictures is expected to dominate the box office this weekend, as the studio will hold both the top two positions. While “Out of the Further” aims for second place, the blockbuster “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is anticipated to add $35 million to $40 million in its fourth week of release, maintaining its leading position with a global total of $2 billion.
Despite a smaller debut than its predecessor—which opened to $33 million—the new film carries a modest production budget of just $18 million, a figure typical for the franchise’s consistently profitable ventures. The “Insidious” series has demonstrated strong commercial appeal, generating $740 million globally across all installments. The new entry features supernatural elements crossing from The Further into the real world and introduces cast members including Amelia Eve and Brandon Perea.
Other releases competing for audience attention include Jason Statham’s action film “Mutiny” and the comedy “Spa Weekend,” though both are projected to capture significantly smaller shares of the weekend’s box office revenue.
