A legal action has been brought against the production team behind Amazon’s forthcoming crime series “Criminal,” with a former production assistant alleging mistreatment on set. Ijaaz Noohu filed the lawsuit against showrunner Ed Brubaker, Amazon MGM Studios, and Big Indie Pictures, claiming he experienced sexual harassment, racial discrimination, and a hostile work environment during his employment beginning in February 2023.
According to the complaint, Noohu faced repeated inappropriate conduct including unwanted physical contact and offensive remarks related to his ethnic background. The lawsuit also describes a serious incident in which Brubaker allegedly pointed a loaded firearm at Noohu’s face and discharged it, an act reportedly witnessed by a senior producer. Additionally, the suit names executive producer Phillip Barnett, claiming he discouraged staff from documenting complaints about the alleged misconduct.
Noohu was ultimately removed from the production and received no on-screen credit for his work. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for the alleged violations. Brubaker, an acclaimed comic book writer known for his work on major titles and television projects including “Westworld” and “Batman: Caped Crusader,” has not responded to requests for comment. Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment on the matter, and representatives for Brubaker and Big Indie Pictures have not addressed the allegations.
