Old Tappan High School’s football team kicked off its season with an impressive 35-26 victory over Ramapo in a Super Football Conference matchup on September 4. The Golden Knights, ranked first in the North Jersey Public Super 20 and tenth in the New Jersey Super 25, demonstrated strong offensive performance throughout the contest.
Senior quarterback Zach Miceli was instrumental in Old Tappan’s success, particularly during the second half when the team’s performance elevated significantly. Miceli scored three rushing touchdowns in the final two quarters, with runs of 58, 10, and 5 yards. He also contributed an early second-quarter rushing touchdown from two yards out that helped the Knights reach halftime tied at 14 points with their opponents.
Head coach Brian Dunn reached a career milestone with this victory, securing his 200th win in his 26th season at the helm of the Old Tappan program. Dunn became the 10th North Jersey coach to accomplish this significant achievement. Following the game, Dunn praised his team’s resilience, noting their improved execution during the second-half performance.
Ramapo’s sophomore quarterback Luke Magerko led a competitive effort for the visitors, throwing a 46-yard touchdown pass to senior Hunter Randolph and recording two additional one-yard rushing touchdowns in the second half. Despite the strong individual performances, Old Tappan’s second-half adjustments proved decisive in securing the season-opening triumph.
