The cast and crew of “Coyote vs. Acme” organized an unusual gathering after Warner Bros. shelved the live-action-animation hybrid comedy, fearing it would never reach audiences. The team held what they called a “funeral screening” to commemorate the project they believed was destined for the studio vault. However, the situation took a turn when Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film from Warner Bros. in March 2025, securing a theatrical release scheduled for August 28.
Star Lana Condor described the emotional toll of the shelving, explaining how the cast and crew questioned their own contributions to the project. She highlighted the disappointment felt by the hundreds of workers who had invested significant time in the production. Director Dave Green echoed these sentiments, noting he had repeatedly worried the film would never see release.
Despite the somber circumstances, Green characterized the funeral screening as surprisingly uplifting, comparing it to a celebratory New Orleans funeral. The event allowed the filmmaking team and cast members, including Condor and Will Forte, to finally experience the completed film together. Green described the screening as emotionally charged and energetic, creating a memorable moment for everyone involved.
The film follows “Looney Tunes” villain Wile E. Coyote as he sues the Acme Corporation for injuries sustained from using its faulty products. The cast includes John Cena, Tone Bell, Martha Kelly, Luis Guzmán, P.J. Byrne and John Early.
