Zinedine Zidane has turned his attention to Serie A as he prepares for his inaugural campaign as France manager. The legendary tactician, who replaced Didier Deschamps following France’s fourth-place finish at the 2026 World Cup, has identified two Italian-based players for his extended squad list.
Como’s captain Lucas Da Cunha and Inter Milan winger Andy Diouf have been included on Zidane’s provisional 50-name roster ahead of the Nations League fixtures. Da Cunha, a 25-year-old with dual French and Portuguese heritage, represented France at youth level and has been instrumental in Como’s remarkable ascent from Serie B to Champions League football since joining in January 2023. Diouf, aged 23, has already earned two senior caps for France during the 2024 Olympic Games and has impressed with his performances on the right flank this season after a challenging debut campaign at Inter.
Zidane will begin his tenure against Turkey on September 25, followed by Belgium three days later, with both nations competing in France’s Nations League group alongside Italy. The inclusion of Da Cunha and Diouf on the preliminary list does not guarantee their participation in these matches, as the final squad selection remains undecided among the extensive pool of candidates under consideration.
