Christopher Bell captured the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday night, securing his first NASCAR Cup Series victory of the 2026 season as the Chase for the Championship opened. The triumph represented Bell’s 14th career Cup Series win and came after a frustrating stretch in which he finished as runner-up on seven separate occasions throughout the year.
Tyler Reddick began the race from the pole position after weather forced NASCAR to cancel qualifying. The early favorite dominated the opening stage, battling Denny Hamlin through the initial laps before claiming the stage victory. Reddick maintained a strong presence up front alongside Hamlin and Bubba Wallace as drivers navigated Darlington’s challenging tire-wear conditions. Bell steadily progressed through the field, securing the second stage victory after passing Chase Briscoe and positioning himself as a threat heading into the final stage.
The closing laps produced the drama that would decide the race. With 33 laps remaining, rain halted competition and forced a red flag. Kyle Larson held the lead after remaining on track while competitors pitted for fresh tires, but Bell’s newer rubber proved advantageous on the restart. With 12 laps to go, Bell made his decisive move, claiming the inside line through Turn 1 and taking command of the race.
Bell crossed the finish line ahead of teammate Ty Gibbs, with Reddick securing third place and Ryan Blaney fourth. The victory provided the ideal opening statement for Bell in the Chase, finally breaking through after months of near-misses.
