The song arrives alongside a black-and-white music video directed by Chloé Aktas, which features actor Jimmi Simpson in the role of a bartender. The clip shows Rose and their band performing in an empty bar, with Simpson’s character transitioning from mundane bar work to joining in the musical energy. Rose explained in a statement that “Jim” represents a specific type of industry figure—someone who maintains an alternative image while leveraging wealth and power in questionable ways.
“Hello Again, Jim” is one of two new singles from Rose’s forthcoming album “Gentling the Horse at the Walt Whitman Mall,” set for release October 23 via SUCK Records. The other track, “Calm,” takes a sardonic approach to mental health struggles. Both songs showcase Rose’s signature use of humor and sarcasm to address difficult subjects. The artist will support Modest Mouse on a North American tour beginning in late September.
