During a weekend scrimmage, Klubnik delivered one of his most impressive efforts to date. The rookie completed ten of fourteen pass attempts for 154 yards while throwing two touchdown passes and one interception. His standout play included a 66-yard connection with receiver Isaiah Williams and an 11-yard scoring pass to tight end Jelani Woods, performances that continued a pattern of strong execution throughout the camp period.
While Klubnik has shown typical rookie struggles in certain situations, he has consistently demonstrated the playmaking ability that made him an intriguing prospect. His continued productivity is giving the coaching staff confidence that he could handle increased responsibilities if needed. The preseason games ahead should provide additional clarity on the competition’s trajectory.
The Jets do not need Klubnik to unseat Smith as their starting quarterback, but they do require assurance that a capable backup exists should circumstances demand one. With each strong practice, Klubnik strengthens his case and keeps the coaches from assuming the backup position is already decided.
