The Bridgewater-Emery Athletics Hall of Fame will celebrate its inaugural class this weekend with an induction ceremony at the Emery Auditorium. The event, scheduled for Saturday, August 29th, will feature a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by a banquet at 6 p.m. and the induction ceremony at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $40, with proceeds benefiting the school’s athletic programs.
The first class of honorees represents both communities and their athletic legacies. From Bridgewater, inductees include Brian Aamlid, Harold Koch, and John Rinehart. Emery’s representatives are Lee Ibis, Terry Janssen, and Steve Arend. Heather Wollman becomes the first inductee from the consolidated Bridgewater-Emery teams. Additionally, two historic boys basketball teams will be recognized: Bridgewater’s 1961 squad and Emery’s 1950 team.
The hall of fame concept emerged from Brad Bartscher’s vision to honor the athletic traditions of both communities, which merged into one school in 2010. A 12-member committee formed in January and completed the foundational work in just six months. Going forward, inductees will be selected according to established bylaws, with future classes including two representatives from each community and two from the consolidated school. Athletes must wait at least 10 years after high school graduation before becoming eligible for nomination.
