Planalto-GO captured the Women’s Brasileirão A3 championship on Saturday evening in Aracaju, defeating Juventude-SE at Lourival Batista Stadium. The Goiás-based side secured their title with a 1-0 victory, matching the same scoreline from the first leg of the final series played away from home.
This edition marked a historic milestone for the tournament, which was incorporated into Brazil’s national football calendar in 2022. The competition expanded significantly, increasing from 78 to 126 matches across the season—surpassing 100 games for the first time. The restructuring included adopting a home-and-away format during the initial phase and raising the number of scheduled dates from 11 to 14. Each participating team now guaranteed at least six fixtures, compared to the knockout-only format used in the tournament’s inaugural year.
The expansion reflects broader efforts to strengthen women’s football ahead of the World Cup scheduled for Brazil. All 32 teams competing in Série A3 automatically qualify for the Women’s Copa do Brasil, ensuring fuller competitive calendars throughout the season. CBF also increased participation fees substantially, with first-phase contributions rising more than threefold from the previous year to R$120,000.
Planalto’s victory represents the first national women’s title for Goiás, while runner-up Juventude achieved promotion to Série A2 and made history as Sergipe’s first representative in a national championship final across men’s and women’s competitions.
