Academy Award-winning actress Anne Hathaway became an official Disney Legend during ceremonies at the company’s D23 fan event on Sunday. The honor recognizes her decades of work with the entertainment giant, beginning with her breakout role as Princess Mia in “The Princess Diaries” in 2001. Hathaway delivered an emotional acceptance speech, crediting her family for fostering her passion for storytelling and performance from an early age.
The actress expressed gratitude for the remarkable opportunities her early Disney projects provided. Following her debut, Hathaway landed the role of Andy Sachs in 2004’s “The Devil Wears Prada,” working alongside industry icons including Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. She reprised that character in a recent sequel that earned over $690 million worldwide, bringing the franchise total past the $1 billion mark.
Director David Frankel and Vogue editor Anna Wintour presented Hathaway with the award, with Wintour appearing via video to praise not only the actress’s talent and versatility but also her character. Wintour noted Hathaway’s kindness, work ethic, and ability to help others succeed. Hathaway was joined at the ceremony by her husband Adam Shulman and their two sons, Jonathan and Jack.
Hathaway joined an elite group of 2026 Disney Legends that includes former CEO Bob Iger, Dwayne Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jerry Bruckheimer, and several other entertainment figures.
