Amazon has implemented widespread price increases across its consumer electronics lineup, with some products becoming significantly more expensive. The retail giant raised prices on Kindle e-readers, Echo smart speakers, Fire TV streaming devices, and eero WiFi routers over the weekend, with increases ranging up to 60 percent in certain cases. Budget-friendly models such as the basic Kindle and Echo Dot experienced some of the steepest price hikes, each jumping by $30 to $50.
An Amazon representative confirmed the price adjustments to Fortune, citing rising expenses for memory and storage components as the primary reason. The company stated it had delayed passing these costs to consumers but ultimately determined the increases were necessary. Despite the hikes, Amazon indicated it would continue running promotional offers throughout the year on affected products, suggesting potential discounts during major shopping events.
The price increases affect virtually all of Amazon’s core hardware offerings, with notable exceptions including the premium Echo Studio speaker and Ring security devices. The Fire TV Cube saw the largest increase at $60, while the Echo Show 21 jumped by $100. Entry-level devices were particularly impacted, with the Echo Dot rising from $50 to $80 and standard Kindle models increasing from $110 to $150.
Amazon joins a growing list of technology manufacturers grappling with elevated component costs. Companies including Apple, Dell, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony have similarly raised prices on their hardware in recent months, all citing supply chain pressures and increased memory costs as contributing factors to their pricing decisions.
