Amazon MGM Studios has appointed Carina Walker as the new head of young adult content, completing the executive team assembled by global TV head Peter Friedlander. Walker brings nearly a decade of experience from her time at Amazon, where she has worked across multiple content divisions including drama and international programming.
Walker’s extensive background positions her well for the role, particularly given her recent work developing young adult series for Prime Video. Her credits include shepherding projects like “Off Campus” and “Every Year After” to success, establishing her expertise in a space that has become increasingly important for the streaming platform. She also contributed to the development of other high-profile series including “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
The appointment comes as Amazon MGM Studios prioritizes young adult content, with an emphasis on adapting popular BookTok titles and supporting emerging talent. Walker replaces Alex Weinberger, who departed in mid-June. Her promotion is part of Friedlander’s broader effort to finalize his leadership structure, which now includes executives overseeing drama, comedy, worldbuilding, nonfiction, and animation divisions.
Prior to rejoining Amazon in 2021, Walker spent time at Apple TV working on series such as “Masters of Air” and “Shantaram.” Her earlier Amazon tenure included involvement with acclaimed series like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Goliath,” as well as developing international content across multiple territories.
