Nintendo unveiled significant details about the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 during a Tuesday morning presentation celebrating the franchise’s 40th anniversary. The event, which lasted approximately thirty minutes, focused primarily on the game’s remake while also touching on an upcoming live-action film adaptation.
The remake maintains the core structure and puzzle design of the original 1998 release, as demonstrated through gameplay footage of early sections including Kokiri Forest and the Great Deku Tree dungeon. However, developers introduced several gameplay modifications for modern audiences, including a dedicated jump button and sprint functionality. The game now features fully voiced cutscenes and allows players to hum notes into the Switch 2’s microphone when playing the ocarina, with a separate playable ocarina accessory also available. Visually, the remake employs contemporary graphics technology with enhanced textures and water effects while preserving the character designs from the original.
Nintendo confirmed the Ocarina of Time remake will launch on November 5 for Switch 2, releasing shortly before Grand Theft Auto VI. The company is also releasing a themed Switch 2 console and Pro Controller featuring Triforce designs, available on October 29 at $500.
Regarding the live-action Zelda film arriving April 30, 2027, Nintendo announced it will simply be titled The Legend of Zelda with no subtitle, according to series creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
