Amazon has announced that its advanced AI assistant Alexa+ will now be available at no cost to all users with Fire TV devices in the United States. The rollout, which began Wednesday, applies automatically to compatible devices without requiring any action from users or additional app downloads.
The expanded access represents a significant shift in Amazon’s distribution strategy. Previously, Alexa+ was only available to Amazon Prime subscribers or those willing to pay $19.99 monthly for the service. Compatible devices include Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes, Amazon Ember smart TVs, and third-party televisions from manufacturers such as Hisense, TCL, and Panasonic that run on the Fire TV operating system.
Alexa+ offers multiple capabilities beyond entertainment recommendations, including real-time weather and sports information. The AI assistant can provide personalized content suggestions based on genre, cast, and release year, answer questions about shows being watched, and integrate with smart home devices like Ring cameras and smart locks to control home automation features.
Amazon reports strong user engagement with the service, noting that current Alexa+ customers have nearly double the conversation volume compared to original Alexa users and select recommendations at rates 40% higher than the previous version. The company appears poised to dramatically expand its user base through this complimentary approach, following a similar strategy employed by competitors like Google with its Gemini AI features.
