Daniel Dubois will put his WBO heavyweight title on the line in a rematch against Fabio Wardley on 17 October at London’s O2 Arena. The announcement came during the undercard of Moses Itauma’s IBF heavyweight title bout with Filip Hrgovic, where both fighters faced off in the ring to build anticipation for their October clash.
Dubois, 28, claimed victory in their first meeting this past May in Manchester with an 11th-round stoppage, securing his second world championship. That thrilling encounter saw Wardley drop Dubois twice early on, but the London fighter recovered to inflict significant damage on his opponent before the referee halted the bout. Wardley, 31, suffered his first professional loss in that contest.
Dubois expressed confidence heading into the rematch, declaring he would achieve a “dominant victory” and calling it “just a war.” Wardley, meanwhile, stated he was eager for the immediate return and vowed to make necessary adjustments after their first encounter. The Ipswich fighter, who took up boxing relatively late at age 19, has risen rapidly through the heavyweight ranks.
The winner of the Dubois-Wardley rematch could face Moses Itauma next summer, provided the heavyweight prospect secures a world title. Promoter Frank Warren has suggested a potential Wembley Stadium showdown between the victors for summer 2027.
