Organizations that assist victims of these attacks have documented a significant surge in support requests. Access Now, a digital rights group that Apple directs compromised users toward, received approximately 30 to 40 percent more inquiries than typical following the notification wave. Cybersecurity firm iVerify similarly confirmed detecting an unusual influx of Apple threat alerts. Social media reports from weekend recipients further underscore the widespread nature of the campaign.
Experts attribute the elevated notification volume partly to Apple’s expanded alert system, which now reaches users through lock screen messages, email, settings notifications, and web account logins. John Scott-Railton from The Citizen Lab, which monitors government spyware operations, characterized the geographic breadth of public reports as extraordinary. He suggested the visible notifications represent only a fraction of actual targets, indicating potentially larger-scale attacks operating beyond public awareness.
