The most notable mistake involved country artist Ella Langley, whose chart-topping hit “Choosin’ Texas” appeared on the list under the misspelled name “Ella Langely.” Additional errors included Texas-connected musicians rendered unrecognizable: San Antonio native Moe Bandy became “Moe Brandy,” while Houston’s experimental group Khruangbin was listed as “Krugbhagin.” The latter misspelling was particularly problematic, as it appeared in the song title “Texas Sun Krugbhagin,” making the track effectively unsearchable on music platforms.
The playlist also featured selections that raised eyebrows regarding artistic consistency. BigXThaPlug’s “Texas” opens with explicit language and references to street culture, a stark contrast to Abbott’s known positions on public morality, including his support for displaying the Ten Commandments in schools. Other inclusions featured properly spelled entries like George Strait’s “Amarillo by Morning” and Cody Johnson’s “That’s Texas.”
Observers speculated whether the errors stemmed from careless proofreading or improper artificial intelligence usage by the governor’s staff, noting that a simple search could have prevented the embarrassing misspellings.
