The New York Giants have released running back Dante Miller, known to fans as “Turbo,” according to an announcement made Monday. The decision came with an injury designation after Miller sustained a groin injury during the team’s 13-10 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
The waiver was part of a broader roster restructuring by the Giants, which also included signing quarterback Jake Haener and linebacker Chandler Martin. The moves were necessary after cornerback Sam Webb announced his retirement on Sunday, creating an opening on the active roster that Miller ultimately filled.
Miller had become a fan favorite due to his impressive 4.27 speed and explosive playmaking ability. Originally signed by the Giants after an unusual eligibility situation made him an undrafted free agent, he impressed during training camp and preseason. However, he had spent the majority of his time with the team on the practice squad rather than the active roster.
The Giants are exploring other options at the running back position. The team hosted veteran Najee Harris for a workout on Monday as they evaluate potential additions to their backfield depth chart.
