TLA Releasing has acquired North American distribution rights to “Labrador – Autopsy of Silence,” a critically acclaimed film that premiered at the recent Tribeca Festival. The acquisition, brokered through international sales company H264, grants the distributor exclusive rights to release the film throughout the United States and United Kingdom.
Director Rodrigue Jean’s latest work garnered significant recognition at Tribeca, capturing three major awards. The film earned the top prize for best international narrative feature, alongside honors for cinematography and lead performance. Christopher Angatookalook received recognition for his acting role, while cinematographer Mathieu Laverdière was acknowledged for his visual work.
The narrative follows a cargo vessel completing its seasonal journey to remote Inuit settlements in northern Canada. When a murder occurs aboard the ship during a severe storm near Labrador’s coast, the investigation centers on Alupa, an Inuit crew member and friend of the victim. The film examines themes of identity, social class, and racial dynamics against the stark Canadian landscape. H264 plans a theatrical Canadian release during winter 2027, while TLA Releasing will handle distribution in its respective territories.
