Ohio State football will face two notably different opponents over the next two weeks as the Buckeyes attempt to recover from a disappointing loss to Texas. The team returns home to face Kent State before heading into Big Ten conference play against Illinois the following weekend.
Kent State enters the matchup with momentum after a dominant Week 2 performance. Following an opening week shutout loss to South Carolina, the Golden Flashes bounced back impressively with a 36-15 victory over FCS opponent Wofford. Kent State’s comeback was particularly striking, as the team scored 22 consecutive points in the fourth quarter after trailing by one point at the half.
Illinois presents a different challenge for the Buckeyes, coming off a home defeat to Duke. The Fighting Illini led 24-21 at halftime but managed only three additional points in the second half, ultimately falling 31-27 to the Blue Devils. Despite the loss, Illinois displayed offensive firepower with quarterback Katin Houser completing 24 of 35 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns, with receiver Collin Dixon emerging as his primary target with 11 catches for 166 yards and three scores.
Ohio State is expected to enter both contests as a heavy favorite as the program looks to address issues that emerged during Week 2’s disappointing performance against the Longhorns.
