TIFFCOM, Tokyo’s prominent film market, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Frontières, a genre-focused co-production initiative managed by Canada’s Fantasia International Film Festival. This partnership marks the first time the two organizations have worked together, introducing a significant collection of horror and thriller projects to the seventh edition of the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market.
The TGFM brings together 24 feature films from across 24 countries and regions, spanning Asia, Europe, South America, and North America. The marketplace connects filmmakers whose projects have already secured approximately 60% of their budgets with industry professionals for targeted one-on-one meetings designed to secure remaining financing. All participating films must incorporate an Asian element to qualify for selection.
The Frontières Showcase component comprises five projects, drawing filmmakers from diverse regions including Brazil, Vietnam, and Nepal. Notable entries include a body horror feature from Brazilian director Gabriela Amaral Almeida and a work from Vietnamese filmmaker Diep Nguyen Hoang. The expanded slate also features five animated productions and three Italian-Japanese co-productions, reflecting the market’s international reach.
This year’s iteration introduces additional programming innovations, including TIFFCOM’s first public pitch event in collaboration with Imagica Group on October 28. The market continues its tradition of supporting emerging talent, with past participants achieving recognition at major festivals including Annecy and Sundance. TGFM runs October 28-30 as part of TIFFCOM 2026.
