Bexar County residents approved a significant funding measure last November to support a new arena for the San Antonio Spurs. Proposition B, which passed with 52.1% voter approval, authorized an increase in county venue taxes, including fees on hotel occupancy and short-term car rentals. The measure will provide $311 million in public funding for the project.
The county’s contribution represents only a portion of the total construction costs for the proposed facility. The city of San Antonio will supply an additional $489 million in public funding to complete the financing package. Combined with private investment, the arena project carries a total estimated price tag of $1.3 billion.
This dual-funding approach leverages both county and municipal resources to support the sports infrastructure investment. The venue tax increases approved by county voters will specifically fund the county’s portion of the arena development, while the city’s commitment ensures sufficient capital to proceed with construction of the new facility.
