Disney announced plans to bring its animated classic “Tangled” to the big screen as a live-action film, scheduling its theatrical release for March 31, 2028. The studio revealed the date during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the D23 event in Anaheim on Friday, where exclusive footage from the project was presented to attendees for the first time.
The adaptation will feature Teagan Croft in the lead role of Rapunzel, the princess imprisoned in a tower with magically long hair, and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, the charming thief who becomes central to her escape. Supporting cast members include Kathryn Hahn as the antagonist Mother Gothel and Diego Luna in an undisclosed role, along with Patrick and Hugo McPherson as the Stabbington brothers. During her appearance at D23, Hahn discussed her character with enthusiasm, describing Mother Gothel as a complex figure whose overprotective nature stems from genuine affection.
Director Michael Gracey, known for “The Greatest Showman,” is helming the film from a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor. Production commenced in Spain during June. The project represents Disney’s continued effort to adapt its beloved animated properties into live-action films, following the commercial disappointment of the recent “Snow White” remake, which grossed significantly less than the original 2010 “Tangled” animated feature’s worldwide success.
