The BBC has unveiled details for its upcoming dark comedy-crime drama “Tall Tales and Murder,” a six-part series set to air this fall. Created by Stuart Carolan, known for “Love/Hate,” and co-created with Chris Addison, a decorated director from “Veep,” the show blends contemporary crime narratives with historical elements. The production, filmed across Ireland, combines tales of corrupt law enforcement and criminal enterprises with an ancient storyline involving monks, Vikings, and legendary treasures.
The cast includes Ella-Lily Hyland as Bridget, a night-shift nurse at a Dublin care facility who orchestrates unconventional activities for residents. When a mysterious comatose patient played by Aidan Gillen awakens and claims to be a missing gangster with access to Celtic treasure, the situation spirals into chaos. Other cast members include Brian Doherty as an unconventional detective, Packy Lee as a ruthless criminal, and Philippa Dunne as a crime boss, each playing crucial roles in the unfolding drama.
“Tall Tales and Murder” is a co-commission between BBC Northern Ireland and RTÉ, with production handled by Avalon alongside Ireland-based Metropolitan Pictures. The series draws inspiration from Caimh McDonnell’s “Dublin Trilogy” book series and will air on BBC One and BBC One Northern Ireland this autumn, with international distribution handled by Avalon.
