The University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team secured a 3-2 victory against Syracuse University on Sunday, with junior forward Cabot McLaren of Sugar Hill playing a pivotal role in the comeback. McLaren’s contributions on both ends of the field proved decisive as the Wildcats improved their all-time record against the Orange to 2-0-1.
McLaren opened the scoring for UNH in the 53rd minute by delivering a cross from the sideline that teammate David Davila finished with a header. Later in the match, with Syracuse leading 2-1, McLaren struck the equalizer in the 80th minute when his low shot from the penalty box area found its way through traffic into the corner of the net.
Just two minutes after McLaren’s leveling goal, Laurin Preuss secured the game-winner for the Wildcats with a long-range effort from approximately 30 yards away. The victory improved UNH’s record to 1-1-0 on the season, while Syracuse fell to 1-1-0.
The Wildcats will continue their campaign with a home opener scheduled for Thursday evening at 7 p.m., hosting St. John’s at their home field.
