The Detroit Lions completed two roster moves on Monday, bringing running back Roydell Williams and defensive back Jason Taylor II into the organization. The additions come as the team addresses depth concerns following recent injuries to key offensive players.
Williams, a 24-year-old from Florida State, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts before being released five days prior to joining Detroit. The 5-foot-10, 223-pound back previously played for the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he rushed for 560 yards and five touchdowns on 111 carries during the 2023 season. Over his college career, Williams accumulated 1,264 rushing yards and 13 scores across 275 carries, though injuries limited him to just 10 games over his final two seasons at Florida State.
Taylor, a 6-foot, 204-pound defensive back, was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. The Oklahoma State product has appeared in eight NFL games, all during his rookie year with the Rams. Taylor’s college résumé includes 175 tackles, 11 passes defended, eight interceptions, and 2.5 sacks. He has also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs since leaving Los Angeles.
The signings coincide with the Lions placing running back Raheem Blackshear and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson on Reserve/Injured, creating roster openings for the new additions.
