Blizzard Entertainment has announced an upcoming entry in its long-running science fiction franchise, set to launch in 2030. The developer revealed the project, formally titled “StarCraft III” but marketed as “StarCraft,” during BlizzCon 2026 this past weekend. The new installment represents the first major release in the series since “StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void” arrived in 2015, making it a significant milestone for the franchise that began with the original game’s debut in 1998.
The forthcoming title will be a story-driven, open-world shooter experience positioned decades after the events of its predecessor. The game takes place within the Koprulu Sector, approximately 70 years following the conclusion of “StarCraft II,” establishing a fresh setting within the established universe. The project is being led by Dan Hay and remains in early development stages.
Blizzard indicated that additional details regarding the game will emerge gradually over coming years, including gameplay demonstrations and expansive world-building content. The announcement was accompanied by an initial teaser for players eager to learn more about the direction the franchise will take. The company emphasized this represents a brand-new chapter in the “StarCraft” saga rather than a direct continuation of previous storylines.
