Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced that the fifth installment in the acclaimed Diablo franchise is slated to arrive in spring 2029. The studio revealed the news during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, held at the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday. The upcoming title will take place approximately one hundred years after the events depicted in Diablo IV, which launched in 2023.
A significant departure from previous entries, Diablo V will present players with a world where the forces of evil have achieved victory. The game’s narrative will explore a fallen version of Sanctuary, challenging players to confront the question of what they must sacrifice when darkness has already consumed their world. This represents the first time the franchise has depicted such a catastrophic outcome for its setting.
The Diablo franchise has reached a major milestone in 2026, marking three decades since the original game’s 1996 debut. Across its four main entries, the series has accumulated more than 130 million players globally. Beyond the video game announcement, Blizzard also revealed plans for a Diablo animated television series currently in development with Netflix, signaling the company’s expansion into additional entertainment mediums.
