Bath captain and England scrum-half Ben Spencer will be sidelined during the initial stages of the upcoming 2026-27 Premiership season following surgical intervention on a persistent shoulder complaint. The 34-year-old previously dealt with the same shoulder issue in April, forcing him to sit out two matches before returning to action later that campaign. Spencer featured for England this summer as a replacement during their Nations Championship fixture in Argentina.
The club has indicated that Spencer is expected to resume playing during the autumn period, meaning he will miss Bath’s season opener against Harlequins on September 25. This absence adds to Bath’s injury concerns heading into the new season, though several teammates will be available despite also undergoing shoulder surgery over the summer months.
Among those expected to be fit for the campaign’s start are players Hennessey, de Glanville, Muir, Dunn, and Underhill. Additionally, hooker Will Stuart and number eight Jaco Coetzee, both of whom have been managing long-term injuries, are anticipated to be ready for selection. Prop Archie Griffin is projected to return during the opening block of the season following summer surgery, while fellow front-row player Beno Obano continues rehabilitation from a hamstring injury sustained during international duty.
