Verdigris remained perfect in district play Tuesday, cruising past rival Catoosa 11-1 behind a dominant two-way performance from pitcher Rilyn Stringfellow. The Lady Cardinals improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in District 4A-7 action, while the Lady Indians dropped to 6-4 with a 4-3 district record.
Stringfellow was nearly unstoppable from the mound, allowing just three hits and one run across seven innings while striking out seven batters. Her offensive contributions proved equally impressive, going 3-for-3 with a home run and a double. She scored runs in the first, third, and sixth innings, demonstrating her ability to impact the game on both sides of the field.
The Verdigris offense proved too much for Catoosa to handle, recording 16 total hits. Brinlee Murray and Taber Ennis each added three hits to the attack, with Murray driving in three runs. Sydney Lewis also contributed three RBIs, including a crucial bases-clearing double during a decisive six-run fourth inning that essentially put the game out of reach. For Catoosa, Brooklynn Scott managed two of the team’s three hits, while Ella Remington drove in their lone run.
The fourth inning proved pivotal in the contest. After Verdigris held a slim 2-0 lead, the Lady Cardinals erupted for six runs to take an 8-0 advantage, effectively deciding the outcome. Additional runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings sealed the convincing victory.
