Claremore’s softball team dominated Collinsville in a District 5A-4 conference opener Tuesday night, cruising to a 7-0 shutout victory. Pitcher Alexis Morton was nearly untouchable on the mound, holding the Lady Cardinals to just three hits over six and two-thirds innings while striking out five batters. The Lady Zebras’ defense proved equally stingy, preventing Collinsville from mounting any serious offensive threats throughout the contest.
The game’s decisive moment came in the third inning when Claremore’s offense erupted for four runs. Defensive miscues by Collinsville allowed multiple runners to score, with Presley Stimson and Addison Reavis each contributing to the outburst. The Lady Zebras added two more insurance runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Tilly Andrews’ two-run double that extended the lead to 7-0.
Claremore’s balanced attack saw multiple contributors in the victory. Andrews and Reavis each drove in two runs, while Claire Pilkington and Riley Fay added RBIs of their own. Collinsville managed to get runners in scoring position on a couple of occasions but couldn’t break through Morton’s stellar pitching performance.
The victory improved Claremore to 6-7 overall and 1-0 in district play, while Collinsville fell to 4-6 and 0-2 in conference competition. The Lady Zebras’ strong defensive performance, combined with timely hitting and dominant pitching, set the tone for what could be a competitive district season.
